Leixlip’s Andrew Omobamidele has enjoyed a meteoric rise in his footballing career across the past year.
He made his senior debut against Preston towards the end of last season, establishing himself as a mainstay in the Norwich team as the Norfolk-based side cemented Premier League status at their first attempt following relegation to the Championship.
Now, as the start of Premier League season looms for the Canaries, Omobamidele can call himself a top tier defender.
However, the Kildare native has not let that get to him and is grateful for every opportunity in the first team.
Speaking after their 1-0 pre-season win over Lincoln yesterday he told Norwich’s website.
“I’m just cherishing every minute I can get. I’d play 90 minutes every week if I could!
“Going into the best league in the world, you need to be tested in pre-season, so these games are perfect.”
Norwich boss Daniel Farke is a big admirer of the academy graduate having offered the youngster a new contract. Signed in back December, Omobamidele’s new deal expires in 2024 showing real long-term belief in the 19-year-old.
The new season could well be the biggest of the talented youngster’s career as he faces the worlds best.
