Reports: Ty Lue and Kyrie Irving have mutual interest in Brooklyn reunion

It’s been a long time since Kyrie Irving left Cleveland and it appears that time heals all wounds, not just the ones he had with LeBron James. One of the last big bits of news that hit the NBA before the league went to a hiatus was the Brooklyn Nets firing head coach Kenny Atkinson, opening up easily the most desirable job on the market as far as head coaches looking to win a championship.

With Kevin Durant expected to come back next season, the Nets will likely need a championship coach. And according to multiple reports, including a new one this week from Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News, there is a mutual interest in a reunion between Irving and his former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Ty Lue.

The former Cavaliers coach is, in fact, interested in the Nets gig, according to a source, following a Yahoo! report that Irving prefers Lue on Brooklyn’s sideline.

It’s been almost three years since Irving made comments that appeared to shade Lue when Irving praised the “intellectual” nature of Boston head coach Brad Stevens. It appears he’s gotten over that. Lue, who very nearly had the job as Lakers head coach before contract talks broke down, is the lead assistant on Doc Rivers’ L.A. Clippers coaching staff.
