Reports: Thunder, Lakers in ‘advanced’ trade talks for Dennis Schroder

Dennis Schroder could soon find himself on the reigning championship Los Angeles Lakers.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are in “advanced” talks to trade the guard to the Lakers, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

In return, the Thunder would acquire the No. 28 pick in the 2020 NBA draft, both reports said. It was unclear if that was the entire return or just a piece of it.

Oklahoma City already owns the No. 25 pick.

Last season, Schroder was a finalist for the Sixth Man of the Year Award after averaging 18.9 points, four assists and 3.6 rebounds per game while shooting career-high percentages both from the field and from 3.

He would give the Lakers a playmaker who can create his own shot as well as play solid defense against other guards. Los Angeles, who used LeBron James in a point guard role last season, could use another playoff-caliber facilitator to help lead the offense and take some load off the star.

The Thunder would get another draft pick, which they could either use on another player or try to package along with the No. 25 pick in an effort to move up.
