FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. _ Kodak Black has not been shot. Internet reports of the 19-year-old rapper being shot in his hometown of Pompano Beach are not true.
"It's all false," said Black's lawyer, Allan Zamren. "It's a rumor. I've been getting calls from TMZ, from everywhere. He's fine."
It's just the latest in an ongoing problem on the internet: fake news.
The rumor about Kodak Black appears to have spread after somebody posted a video of what appears to be a nighttime crime scene replete with what appears to be Broward Sheriff's squad cars, deputies and other emergency personnel.
"Rapper Kodak Black just got shot while coming from a club in Pompano," a voice says over the footage.
The video was also accompanied by a post that states Kodak Black was shot twice in the chest while driving in Pompano Beach after leaving a strip club.
The rumor caught fire on social media, with many of the rapper's fans using the #PrayForKodak hashtag.
Black, whose legal name is Dieuson Octave, was sentenced to a year of house arrest and five years of probation, which was arranged as part of the sentence he received in a Broward courtroom in the summer. He was to serve his house arrest at an undisclosed location about 50 minutes from where he grew up in Pompano Beach. That sentence allows for Black to travel for work-related purposes including live performances.
Black, who was held in three different jails _ Broward, St. Lucie, and Florence County, S.C. _ between May and December, faces a felony count of criminal sexual conduct in Florence, S.C. He was released on $100,000 bond on the South Carolina charge in December.
