DETROIT _ U.S. Rep. John Conyers is hospitalized for stress-related issues, political consultant Sam Riddle told media, including WDIV-TV Thursday morning.
"I just spoke with (Conyers' wife) Monica Conyers on the phone, and we'd like to let you know that the congressman is resting comfortably at an area hospital," Riddle said on video in a tweet shared by WXYZ-TV reporter Shelley Childers. "He's doing OK; as well as can be expected for a gentleman that's approaching 90 years of age."
The announcement came shortly after a former staff member of Conyers appeared on the Today Show and accused him of "violating my body" among a number of sexual misconduct claims.
The congressman returned from Washington, D.C., to Detroit earlier this week, amid multiple allegations of sexual harassment.
