Patriots, Tom Brady agree to extension worth up to $70M

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots agreed on a two-year contract extension on Sunday that keeps him with the team through 2021, according to multiple reports. He is set to earn $23 million in 2019, then $30 million in 2020 and $32 million in 2021, but the deal can get adjusted on a year-to-year basis, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Brady was in the final year of his contract. He was set to earn $15 million with a $27 million cap hit after signing a two-year extension before the 2018 season. Brady was asked Wednesday how he felt about entering the final year of his deal.

“I’ve had such a great experience over a lot of years and I appreciate this team and the opportunity it gave me in 2000. And I play for a great coach — coach [Bill] Belichick and Josh McDaniels and I have a great working relationship, and I love Mr. Kraft and his family,” Brady said at Gillette Stadium after a training camp practice. “We’ve had just incredible success, so hopefully we can keep it going. ”

Bady finished the 2018 season with a win in Super Bowl LIII to go with solid stats. With Rob Gronkowski struggling physically and significant turnover at the wide receiver position, Brady completed 65.8 percent of his passes for 4,355 yards, 29 touchdowns and 11 interceptions last year.
