Reports of shots fired during cash-in-transit robbery in Salford

Robbers are believed to have opened fire during a cash-in-transit robbery.

The masked gang attacked a G4S van as it arrived at Barclays Bank on Liverpool Road, Irlam .

The raid took place at 2.20pm today and a cash box was snatched from a guard.

In a statement Greater Manchester Police said: "Police were called shortly before 2.20pm on Monday 23rd September to a report of a cash-in-transit delivery robbery at a bank on Liverpool Road, Irlam, Salford.

"Offenders threatened a cash-in-transit courier before leaving with a cash box.



"There were no reports of injuries.

"Officers are investigating reports that a firearm was discharged into the air during the incident.



"A scene remains in place at the bank. Enquiries are ongoing."

A second police was set up on Allotment Rd, Cadishead.

Police are investigating whether a burned out VW Golf found there was used in the the robbery.
