Reports of man 'crushed to death' as crane drops load days before Christmas

A man has reportedly been crushed to death after a crane is believed to have dropped its load at a building site.

Emergency services including paramedics, firefighters and police rushed to the scene of the incident in East Road, East London, at around 1.30pm this afternoon (Tuesday, December 21).

Police confirmed a man had been struck by a falling object and was pronounced dead at the scene, MyLondon reports.

Further details of the incident remain unknown at this stage, but it is believed to have occurred at a building site near the road's junction with Vestry Street.

Both roads remain blocked and a cordon is in place, with delays in area and various bus services being diverted.

In a statement, the London Fire Brigade said: "Firefighters have been called to assist paramedics at an incident on East Road in Hackney.

"The Brigade was called at 1.31pm. Two fire engines from Shoreditch and Islington and a fire rescue unit from Euston Fire Station are at the scene."

The Met Police have also been approached for comment.
