EMERGENCY services came up empty-handed during a large-scale search for a light aircraft that had reportedly crashed at Cooranbong.
A call was made to triple-0 about 12.20pm on Wednesday and emergency services raced to the suspected crash site near Matthews Valley Road.
"Somebody heard a bang in the sky and believed an aircraft has crashed," a spokesman for NSW Ambulance said.
Police Force, Fire and Rescue, paramedics and the Rural Fire Service crews searched for almost two hours. Members of the public were asked to avoid the area as the investigation took place.
PolAir and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter were tasked to do sweeping searches over the suspected crash zone, but nothing could be found.
"Initial reports from residents in the area was that it appeared that the aircraft's engine had stalled and appeared to be in distress before a large explosion was heard," a Westpac Rescue Helicopter statement said.
"After an extensive search of the area, nil aircraft or wreckage has been located."
Crews were called off about 2.20pm, with some police remaining on scene to do a final ground search.
