A man has been flown to hospital in a critical condition after the helicopter he was flying crashed into power lines in southern NSW.

The incident occurred on Friday at Steam Plains, near Deniliquin.

NSW Ambulance on Friday said three crews and a specialist medical team attended the scene and extracted the pilot from the helicopter.

He has been treated for a head injury and flown to Royal Melbourne Hospital.

“The male pilot was the sole occupant in the helicopter,” NSW Ambulance duty manager Markus Zarins said.

“Paramedics, including a specialist medical team, treated him at the scene and are transporting the patient in a serious condition.”
