Reports of gunman in Chester city centre spark armed police and helicopter search

A police helicopter and armed officers scrambled to Chester city centre after reports of a man carrying a gun.

Police were called to Grosvenor Road, close to the junction with Castle Drive, at around 8.16pm on Sunday evening (August 7) following reports a man had been seen with a firearm tucked inside his shorts.

As a result, Cheshire police called out a helicopter alongside other members of the firearms unit to search the nearby area.

A police spokesperson told CheshireLive that despite extensive searches, the suspect had not been found.

Enquiries are ongoing and police have appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.

A Cheshire Constabulary spokesperson added: "At 8.16pm on Sunday, August 7, police were called to the junction of Grosvenor Road and Castle Drive in Chester following a report of a man with a firearm tucked in his shorts.

“Armed officers with the help of the police helicopter made a search of the area.No one was located and there were no further reports. Officers are continuing to make enquiries."
