Michael Avenatti arrested over domestic violence allegation

Stormy Daniels' attorney and frequent Trump critic Michael Avenatti has been taken into policy custody in Los Angeles following a domestic violence allegation, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed Wednesday night.

Why it matters: According to the AP, "[p]olice had responded to a domestic violence incident Tuesday and took a report, but Avenatti was taken into custody Wednesday."

The details: The arrest was first reported by TMZ, which initially said that Avenatti’s estranged wife, Lisa Storie-Avenatti, was involved. But her lawyer denied that account in a statement to NBC News.

“Ms. Storie-Avenatti was not subject to any such incident on Tuesday night. Further, she was not at Mr. Avenatti’s apartment on the date that this alleged incident occurred. My client states that there has never been domestic violence in her relationship with Michael and that she has never known Michael to be physically violent toward anyone. My client requests that the media respect her privacy and that of the parties young son."

Avenatti's ex-wife, Christine Avenatti-Carlin, also released a statement in support of him, saying that they've known each other for 26 years and he never abused her: "Michael has always been a loving kind father to our two daughters and husband to me. He has ever been abusive to me or anyone else. He is a very good man.”
