Reports: Mark Ingram asking for $7.5M APY, Ravens in front

Former New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram will not return to the black and gold for the 2019 season, and the team has opted to reach an agreement with free agent Latavius Murray to compensate. So where does that leave Ingram?

Per Larry Holder of the Athletic, Ingram set his asking price at $7.5 million. That’s a big number for a running back of his age, but would match what the San Francisco 49ers gave Jerrick McKinnon last offseason. And Josh Katzenstein of the Times-Picayune is reporting that the Baltimore Ravens are in the lead to secure Ingram’s services.

Baltimore would be a great fit for Ingram, pairing him with second-year quarterback Lamar Jackson. Jackson is as effective a runner as a passer, and Ingram’s ability on passing downs improved year by year in New Orleans. Ingram would be a great tool for the young quarterback as Jackson settles into the NFL. Then again, the Ravens are also in the thick of the race for former Pittsburgh Steelers superstar Le’Veon Bell, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Other teams connected to Ingram’s free agency tour include the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears. Wherever he lands, Ingram apparently expects to be the leading back — as he should.
