Reports almost all Channel 4 staff to quit rather than move to Bristol or Leeds

Up to 90 per cent of Channel 4 staff will reportedly take redundancy payments instead of moving to new offices in Bristol or Leeds.

The Guardian reports the broadcaster is planning for a bill of more than £50million over the next three years as it moves 300 employees out of its London headquarters.

The TV station is to open an office in the heart of the Bristol at the multi-use Finzels Reach complex, in the former Fermentation Buildings of the old Courage Brewery.

Channel 4 is expected to either bring or create 50 to 60 jobs in Bristol when its 'creative hub' opens in the autumn.

Most of the channel's staff will move to Leeds, while some others will go to Bristol and a hub in Glasgow.

If the proportion of London-based staff seeking redundancy remains at the expected level of around 90 per cent, then only between 20 and 40 staff will end up moving out of the capital, the Guardian reports.

Channel 4’s former chief executive David Abraham previously warned that up to 80 per cent of the workforce would quit if faced with a move out of the capital.

The broadcaster's drama commissioning department is set to be based in Bristol, with Glasgow hosting the factual side of the channel’s output.

Finzels Reach is the industrial development site being brought back to use by developers Cubex on the side of the Floating Harbour opposite Castle Park.

Historic England, English Heritage and creative studio Outlaw are among the other organisations set to move into the complex.
