Chinese police yesterday arrested a German journalist who was attempting to investigate plans to dam the Nujiang river in Yunnan province. Georg Blume, a correspondent for Die Zeit newspaper, said he was detained for "illegal reporting" while speaking to villagers about their resettlement to make way for the dam. He was released only after being forced to hand over some of his material and to sign a statement agreeing not to conduct any more interviews. (Via news.monstersandcritics.com)
