Reported Sunderland target Adam Le Fondre 'flattered' by interest, but focused on Sydney FC

Adam Le Fondre says he flattered by reported interest in him from England, but says his focus is on winning the A-League Grand Finald and Golden Boot with Sydney FC.

Reports last month suggested a host of EFL clubs were interested in the veteran striker, including Sunderland, with Le Fondre known to manager Phil Parkinson from their time at Bolton together.

Le Fondre has played for a number of English clubs, rarely failing to make the mark wherever he's been.

And now 33 and playing in Australia's A-League, he shows no signs of slowing up. His 19 goals so far this term see Sydney lead the top flight table, while he leads the league's scoring charts.

And speaking to the Australian Daily Telegraph, Le Fondre said of his future: "It’s nice for people to show interest but right now I’m focused on the team … we have some big games coming up.

“As a striker I want to keep scoring. It would be nice to win the Golden Boot but if I had the choice I would rather win the grand final again.”

They do things slightly differently in Australia, with the regular season resulting in the top team being crowned the league's Premier. Sydney have secured that crown already.

But then the top six teams qualify for the Finals Series, with the Grand Final producing that season's Champions.

The final is due to be played August 30 though, which means there'll still be ample time for any EFL club to then sign the ex-Reading man before October's transfer deadline.

Whether that will be Sunderland remains to be seen, however, with their interest in former striker Danny Graham reportedly hotting up.
