Coach Anthony Lynn agreed to a contract extension with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Last week, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that it was a multi-year deal. But according to ESPN’s Eric D. Williams, Lynn signed a one-year contract extension that keeps him through the 2021 season.
Originally, with the report of him signing a multi-year deal, the thought was that Lynn would have more security coming off a season where the Bolts finished with a 5-11 record.
But since the extension is more of a short-term deal, Lynn and company have to produce a quick turnaround in order for his job with the Chargers to be safe.
Even though the team still has the talent to flip the switch, they need to figure out how they will fulfill the most important position on the field after the franchise and Philip Rivers decided to part ways earlier this week.
Tyrod Taylor, who’s currently the projected starter at the moment, has some postseason experience as he took the Buffalo Bills to the playoffs in 2017.
Los Angeles could also view this as an opportunity to bring in a polarizing free agent like Tom Brady or trade for someone like Cam Newton, who both have plenty of playoff experience.
The bottom line is that if Lynn wishes to remain with the team beyond 2021, the results can’t match the 2019 regular season.
