Report: Zion Williamson to miss ‘period of weeks’ with knee injury

Feelings of both fear and relief filled Pelicans fans on Thursday morning. After reports on Wednesday of Zion Williamson’s absence from Thursday’s preseason finale being more than a regular preseason rest, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported a bit more detail on Thursday.

While the exact extent or diagnosis of the injury still is unknown, Wojnarowski noted that Williamson is expected to be out a period of weeks to open the season but the Pelicans expect the rookie forward to fully recover for the regular season.

In all, Williamson being out only weeks is a positive but still a bummer. It’s hard to look at the bigger picture given the fact the injury news just came out but if the Pelicans do want to make a run at the playoffs, they’ll need Williamson available as much as possible.

So in one regard, losing him for weeks hurts but when looking at the bigger picture, losing him for “just” weeks is a much easier pill to swallow.
