Report: Zion Williamson picks CAA Sports over Klutch Sports

After a long anticipated wait, Zion Williamson, who is expected to be selected with the first overall pick by the New Orleans Pelicans in the upcoming draft, has signed with CAA Sports, the agency announced on Thursday morning.

It was previously reported that Williamson was also considering Klutch Sports and Rich Paul, who of course represent LeBron James as well as other All-Stars such as Anthony Davis, Ben Simmons, John Wall and Draymond Green.

However, CAA is known as one of the big boys in the agency space so it’s no surprise Zion teamed with them. Prior to leaving for Klutch, LeBron James too was a CAA client. Other notable CAA clients include Joel Embiid, Paul George, Karl-Anthony Towns, Donovan Mitchell, D’Angelo Russell, Devin Booker, Chris Paul and Dwyane Wade. Lakers guard Lonzo Ball also recently signed with CAA.

Williamson is potentially a once-in-a-generation type of player who will bring a surge in ticket sales and national interest.

In his one season with Duke, Williamson averaged 22.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.8 blocks per game while shooting 68.0 percent from the field. Williamson became the third freshman to win Naismith Men’s Player of the Year.

In addition to the national honors Williamson has collected, such as being named to the All-American team, he has also won ACC player of the Year and helped Duke win the ACC tournament.

James and Paul might’ve missed on securing Williamson to Klutch Sports, but the Duke Star could still join the Nike family. Sonny Vaccaro expects Williamson to be at the center of the biggest shoe bidding war in history.
