Report: XFL New York team to be coached by Kevin Gilbride

A familiar name to New York football reportedly will be the head coach of the XFL team in the Big Apple.

FOX’s Jay Glazer reports Kevin Gilbride will head the team that does not have a nickname as of yet. The league tweeted the announcement would be made Tuesday.

Gilbride has been retired since after the 2013 season. Prior to that he worked for the New York Giants as QB coach and offensive coordinator.

Gilbride has had numerous other gigs in the NFL as offensive coordinator.

Gilbride went 6-16 as head coach of the Sean Diego Chargers from 1997-98.

Gilbride will join Bob Stoops (Dallas), Pep Hamilton (Washington), Jim Zorn (Seattle) and Marc Trestman (Tampa Bay) as coaches in the league that is going to launch in 2020.
