Report: XFL Los Angeles team to name Winston Moss head coach/GM

Another coach/GM position for the XFL reportedly will be filled on Tuesday.

The Los Angeles Times is reporting former Green Bay Packers associate head coach Winston Moss will run the LA franchise in the fledgling spring league that will kick off in 2020.

Moss played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Los Angles Raiders and Seattle Seahawks in a career that spanned 1987-97 after he was a second-round pick out of Miami.

He was an assistant for three NFL franchises. The last 13 seasons Moss was the Packers’ linebackers coach. That relationship ended in December after Green Bay fired Mike McCarthy.

The split with the Packers came following a tweet from Moss regarding the long-time head coach’s dismissal.

“Ponder this,” Moss tweeted. “What Championship teams have are great leadership! Period! It’s not the offensive guru trend, it’s not the safe trend. Find somebody that is going to hold #12 and everybody in this building to a #LombardiStandard! Period! #losingsucks!”

Moss won a Super Bowl with the Packers in 2011. He will coach a team that will begin play at Dignity Health Sports Park, also home of the Los Angeles Chargers.

Moss joins Bob Stoops (Dallas), Kevin Gilbride (New York), Jim Zorn (Seattle), Pep Hamilton (Washington),  Johnathan Hayes (St. Louis), and Marc Trestman (Tampa Bay) as lead players for the XFL teams’ front offices. The Houston team is the last one to be looking for a coach/GM.
