Report: Wizards Trading Chris Paul to Western Conference Contender

The Warriors are trading Jordan Poole, Ryan Rollins and multiple draft picks to the Wizards in exchange for Chris Paul, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania. The draft picks are a protected first-round pick in 2030 and a second-rounder in ’27.

Paul was just traded by the Suns to Washington on Sunday as part of another blockbuster trade that landed Bradley Beal in Phoenix. It was never believed that Paul would ever suit up for Washington, with it immediately being reported by Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes that the Wizards would look for a trade partner to deal Paul to another squad. And sure enough, Haynes is also reporting that Golden State will not waive Paul and will have the veteran point guard team up with Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson.

It will be interesting to see how the move works out, given the team’s current construction. The team already has Curry at the point guard position and Green has often played the role of maestro on offense—something very few people in NBA history have done as good as Paul. Green also declined his contract option this week, and could be out the door should both sides not come to terms on a new deal. Both Green and Warriors leadership have constantly expressed interest in the four-time champion staying in Golden State, but no deal is done yet.

Paul, 38, averaged 13.9 points and 8.9 assists per game this past season in Phoenix, as his production drop off on a Suns team that lost in the second round of the playoffs to the Nuggets. Poole saw his own scoring numbers increase, averaging 20.4 points per contest, along with 4.5 assists.

Rollins, a second-round pick in the 2022 NBA draft, was ruled out for the rest of the season this past February after a foot injury. He played in just 12 games during the year, averaging five minutes a contest.
