As a rookie, Teddy Bridgewater had a promising start to his NFL career with the Vikings.
Since then, he has gone through a whirlwind that includes a gruesome leg injury, a great stint with the Saints and a 2020 season as the full-time starter with the Panthers.
Now, it seems like Carolina wants to move on, according to a report. Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer wrote about the Panthers’ issue with Bridgewater:
“The underlying fact here is that a year after signing Teddy Bridgewater to a three-year, $63 million contract, Carolina’s already looking to move on. And the main reason for it, as I’ve heard it, is that he’s very clearly shown the physical limitations that limited interest in him as a free agent last year.”
If the Panthers can’t find a trade partner, they may end up cutting Bridgewater. That’s probably not the most likely scenario. As Breer points out, Bridgewater’s cap hit is significant. But maybe Carolina lets the quarterback walk after one season as a starter. If that’s the case, he could be a good fit as Minnesota’s backup in 2021.
