Report: West Virginia DT Darius Stills met virtually with Vikings

Whether it was getting pressure or plugging up holes, the interior Vikings defensive line struggled in 2020.

This offseason, Minnesota has tried to correct some of its issues in that realm, signing DT Dalvin Tomlinson. With Tomlinson and Michael Pierce up front, the Vikings are primed for improvement on the defensive line.

But the team could always use some more help. The Vikings will likely add depth options below Tomlinson and Pierce on the depth chart.

It appears the Vikings are at least doing their due diligence in trying to find more options outside of Pierce and Tomlinson. According to The Draft Network’s Justin Melo, the Vikings have met virtually with Darius Stills, a defensive tackle out of West Virginia.

Listed at 6-foot-1, 285 pounds, Stills presents more of a finesse option than Tomlinson and Pierce. That said, he played nose tackle for the Mountaineers. He had 7.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in his final collegiate season.

Stills will likely be a mid-round pick, so he wouldn’t cost Minnesota the opportunity to land a player of need in the earlier rounds. In his current frame, he’s probably more of a three-technique player. And if this past season was any indication, the Vikings need all the help they can get in that area.
