Report: Washington is optimistic Alex Smith can play vs. Seahawks

After he was forced to sit out the second half of Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers with calf tightness in his injured leg, Washington is reportedly confident that QB Alex Smith will be able to suit up and start against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday in a game that has seen the magnitude grow over the past couple of days.

Now that Washington has continued their four-game winning streak and taken over as the top team in the NFC East, there is pressure on them to continue to win every game on the schedule and hold onto the playoff spot that would be theirs if they won the division title. A game against the 9-4 Seahawks will go a long way in determining the outcome of the division standings.

With Smith sidelined last week, QB Dwayne Haskins played the second half for Washington. His performance was mediocre at best, though there is said to be confidence that he has improved since being benched earlier this season, and would be fine to start on Sunday with a gameplan tailored to his strengths. Nonetheless, everyone would feel quite a bit more confident if Smith were able to play, as Washington has been on a tear offensively since he took over.
