Report: Warriors working with NBA to complete four-team trade that includes Gary Payton II

Despite the trade deadline coming to an end on Thursday, the Golden State Warriors’ four-team trade that includes the Portland Trail Blazers, Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons, Saddiq Bey, James Wiseman and Kevin Knox has yet to go official.

The trade came to a stall when Gary Payton II failed his physical upon arrival to Golden State. An exam revealed Payton II’s core muscle injury could keep him out for multiple months. Following the failed physical, the Warriors could still rescind the deal.

However, signs are beginning to point towards the Warriors following through with the trade to keep Payton II despite his potential injury.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Warriors are working with the NBA to complete the four-team trade.

On Sunday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that the Warriors filed a complaint to the NBA against the Trail Blazers regarding Payton II’s injury status.

The Warriors will have util 6:30 p.m. PT on Sunday to make an official decision on the four-team trade, per Wojnarowski.

If the trade is completed, Payton II will reunite with Golden State, Wiseman will head to Detroit, Bey will land in Atlanta and Knox along with five second-round picks will move to Portland.

Payton II missed the first 35 games of the season due to the same core muscle injury. In his first season in Portland, Payton II played 15 games, averaging 4.1 points on 58.5% shooting from the field with 2.6 boards, 1.5 assists and 1.1 steals in 17 minutes per contest.
