Report: Warriors to continue following San Francisco shelter-in-place restrictions

After over 40 days without hoops due to the coronavirus pandemic, the NBA is taking the first small steps to get players back on the floor.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the league is planning to reopen team facilities for players on May 1 in states with eased stay-at-home restrictions.

Players will be allowed in training facilities voluntarily for individual work. Group practices and workouts will still be prohibited in open facilities.

Although the NBA is allowing teams to unlock their doors, the Golden State Warriors reopening of the Chase Center practice facility will continue to be on hold. According to Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Warriors will follow San Francisco’s stay-at-home restrictions.

Via the San Francisco Chronicle:

The Warriors will continue to follow San Francisco’s stay-at-home restrictions in terms of deciding when to reopen team practice facilities for players.

“We’ll do whatever (San Francisco Mayor) London Breed says,” a Warriors spokesman told The Chronicle.

San Francisco’s Mayor London Breed recently said it’s “very likely” the current Bay Area shelter-in-place order will be extended beyond the initial end date of May 3. Once a decision is made about San Francisco’s future plan for stay-at-home restrictions, the Warriors will have a better idea of what steps they can make to get players back in the gym.

Once the NBA season returns to action, the Golden State Warriors will have 17 games remaining on the 2019-20 calendar.
