Report: Warriors assistant Mike Brown interviewing for Indiana Pacers head coach opening

After adding former player Leandro Barbosa to the bench last week, the Golden State Warriors coaching staff could be in line for another change.

Following the exit of Nate McMillan, the Indiana Pacers are looking for a new head coach. McMillan was fired after the Miami Heat eliminated the Pacers in four games during the Eastern Conference Playoffs opening round.

In their search to find a new coach, the Pacers will bring in a member of Steve Kerr’s staff for an interview. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Golden State Warriors assistant coach Mike Brown will interview for the Pacers vacant position.

From 2003-2005, Brown served as an associate head coach on Rick Carlise’s staff in Indiana.

Prior to their hiring of Tom Thibodeau, Brown interviewed for the New York Knicks head coaching opening.

Before he came to the Bay Area, Brown served as a head coach for the Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers in his 23-year basketball coaching career. In eight seasons as a head coach, Brown tallied a 347-216 (.616%) record at the helm.

On his way to leading the Cavaliers to a franchise-best 66-16 record in 2009, Brown earned the honor of NBA Coach of the Year.

Brown filled in as Golden State’s acting head coach when Kerr had to leave his mark due to a back injury. With the Warriors head coach out, Brown drew up plays for Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Kevin Durant.

With Brown in for Kerr, Golden State ripped off 12 consecutive victories in the 2017 edition of the NBA Postseason. During his time with Golden State, Brown gained a pair of championship rings.

Since 2015, Alvin Gentry and Luke Walton have left Kerr’s coaching staff for head coaching positions.
