Report: Warriors are signing big man Willie Cauley-Stein to a deal

The Golden State Warriors wild offseason has included losing Kevin Durant to the Brooklyn Nets and re-signing Klay Thompson to a max contract extension. With Durant now gone for good and Thompson out for the 2019-20 season with a torn ACL injury, the Warriors need some reinforcements.

On Tuesday afternoon, they added some big man help. According to Yahoo! Sports’ Chris Haynes, the Warriors have agreed to a deal with center Willie Cauley-Stein. The 7-foot big man spent the first four seasons of his career with the Sacramento Kings and he averaged 11.9 points and 8.4 rebounds in 2018-19 while playing and starting in 81 games.

With this signing, this most likely means that DeMarcus Cousins is not returning to the team. The Warriors are going to be a much different looking bunch in 2019-20 with the loss of Durant, the injury to Thompson, the likely loss of Cousins, and the additions of D’Angelo Russell and Cauley-Stein.

The Warriors will still be a competitive bunch, but the West continuing to stack up, it will be a tougher battle to get back to the NBA Finals.
