Report: Von Miller not charged for catching a shark last spring

After Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller caught a large hammerhead shark off the coast of Florida last spring, PETA complained to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), claiming the shark was illegally killed.

It’s illegal to harvest hammerhead sharks but Miller released his catch and he was not the owner of the boat. The FWC said it would look into the incident last April but transferred the case to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

The NOAA recently told TMZ sports that Miller “was not charged” for the incident. The owner of the boat, however, was fined $2,000.

Speaking about the incident last year, Miller implied that he did not intentionally catch the shark and said it was released unharmed.

“We followed the rules,” Miller said. “I did everything I was supposed to do.”

Miller also caught a shark during the 2016 offseason. That catch was also released and there was no controversy about the fishing trip.
