Report: Vinny Curry chose Eagles over Giants, even taking less money

The New York Giants were interested in veteran defensive end Vinny Curry and even offered him a substantial contract, but in the end, he preferred returning home to Philadelphia.

Jordan Raanan of ESPN reports that Curry took less money to sign with the Eagles than the Giants, who are in need of pass rushing help, had offered.

It remains unclear exactly what the Giants had offered Curry, but it’s not the first time this offseason they have been passed over by a free agent.

Both linebacker Deone Bucannon and wide receiver Phillip Dorsett rebuffed New York in early March, opting to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots, respectively.

With that list now ballooning to three, it offers credence to an anonymous former NFL player who told the New York Daily News at the start of free agency he wouldn’t want to sign with the Giants today.

“If I were a free agent, I wouldn’t go there,” the ex-player said.

The Giants are in a rough spot and remain torn between “build” and “rebuild,” which has clearly raised some red flags with available free agents. It’s already cost them this offseason and may cost them again before things are all said and done.
