Report: Vikings wanted to swap Everson Griffen for Kevin Zeitler

It seems the Cleveland Browns were really bent on upgrading the pass rush this offseason, and using high-priced right guard Kevin Zeitler as trade bait to land a big EDGE fish.

A report from Andrew Krammer of the Star Tribune in Minnesota reveals the Vikings were interested in acquiring Zeitler for pass rusher Everson Griffen.

Griffen managed just 5.5 sacks in 2018 as he dealt with personal issues off the field. He bagged 10 or more sacks in three of the four prior seasons, earning a $58 million contract from the Vikings.

From a Browns standpoint, the report does mesh with the trade whispers surrounding Zeitler well before Browns GM John Dorsey shipped the right guard to the New York Giants for Olivier Vernon. Griffen is the same mold and caliber of talent as Vernon, though younger and slightly cheaper.
