Report: Vikings tried to trade Everson Griffen for Kevin Zeitler

The Vikings were hoping to bolster their offensive line this offseason.

One option we looked at was then-Cleveland guard Kevin Zeitler. Zeitler was ultimately traded to the Giants for Olivier Vernon, but prior to that, the Vikings had engaged in talks with Cleveland that involved Pro Bowl defensive end Everson Griffen, per Andrew Krammer of the Star Tribune.

It made sense for the Vikings. They needed help on the offensive line, and trading Griffen was easier than restructuring his deal, something they ultimately ended up doing.

Griffen, 31, is loved in the Vikings community, but this is just another reminder that this is a business.

The Vikings ultimately ended up addressing their offensive line, adding guard Josh Kline and bringing back Brett Jones.

Ultimately, the Vikings will likely need to add another body and most Vikings’ fans hope that happens in the first round of the NFL Draft later this month.
