Report: Vikings to work out punters Justin Vogel and Shane Tripucka

The Vikings are opening up options at the punter position.

Per Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press, the Vikings will work out punters Justin Vogel, Shane Tripucka and at least one more, to compete with Matt Wile.

Wile averaged 45.2 yards per punt last season in his first with the Vikings. He had 27 punts inside the opponents’ 20-yard line, a mark that ranked 15th in the league. Wile is under contract for 2019 at $645,000, but the Vikings can release him without any penalty.

Vogel, 25, punted for the Packers in 2017 and averaged 44.4 yards per punt. He signed with the Browns prior to the 2018 season, but was released before the season started. He then signed with the 49ers on March 19, but was released a month later.

Tripucka, 24, has no pro experience. He signed with the Chargers in March of 2018, but was later released.

Something to keep an eye on as we approach training camp. Chances are, this will be a preseason battle between Wile and one of these players the Vikings bring in to work out.
