Report: Vikings to sign QB Sean Mannion

It took a while, but on Sunday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported that the Vikings will sign quarterback Sean Mannion.

Mannion, 26, was selected in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Oregon State.

He’s spent the last four seasons with the Rams and has just 53 pass attempts to his name. He has one start under his belt. That came in 2017 when he threw for 185 yards in a Week 17 loss to the 49ers.

Mannion is expected to compete with Kyle Sloter for the backup job to Kirk Cousins. Mannion might be the slight favorite considering Sloter has never taken an NFL snap, but Sloter was solid in preseason last year and believes he’s ready for the job.

Last year’s backup quarterback, Trevor Siemian, signed with the Jets earlier this offseason.
