Report: Vikings spend time with Iowa TE Noah Fant

The Vikings could be in the market for a pass-catching tight end with Kyle Rudolph being a possible cap casualty.

It looks like the Vikings are doing their due dillegence on the position. Per KSTP’s Darren Wolfson, Vikings GM Rick Spielman spent time with Iowa tight end Noah Fant on Monday. Fant has been an absolute combine star.

Fant ran a 4.5 40-yard dash and could be an incredible playmaker in the right situation.

Over the last two seasons at Iowa, Fant caught a combined 69 catches for 1,013 yards and 18 touchdowns.

He’s projected as a late-first, early second-round pick in most mock drafts.

That’s somewhat problematic for the Vikings considering they have the 18th-overall pick and the 50th-overall to open the draft.

Eighteen might be a bit early to take Fant, especially given the team’s need for offensive line help. But by pick No. 50, Fant will probably be gone.

If there’s anything we know about the NFL Draft, though, is that it’s unpredictable and anything can happen.

If the Vikings address the offensive line in free agency prior to the draft, fans will feel better if they decide to take a player like Fant with their first-round pick.
