Report: Vikings showing interest in Sean Mannion for backup QB

The Vikings have shown interest in Sean Mannion for their backup quarterback spot with Trevor Siemian drawing interest from multiple teams, including the New York Jets, per Mike Garafolo.

Mannion, a 2015 third-round pick out of Oregon State, has played with the Rams for the last four seasons.

He has just one career start. That came back in 2017. The Rams lost and Mannion threw for just 185 yards.

This seems to be a downgrade for the Vikings, but with just $1.84 million in cap space, they don’t have many options.

If the Vikings do sign Mannion, though, don’t sleep on Kyle Sloter winning the backup job. It’s conceivable that the Vikings leave the option for Sloter to win the job with less-guaranteed money for Mannion. Sloter is well-liked in the locker room and has looked good in preseason over the years.
