Report: Vikings RB Dalvin Cook will stay with No. 33 given the large price tag to change it

Dalvin Cook has donned the No. 33 while playing for the Vikings. He’s sold plenty of jerseys and has made a name for himself as one of the best running backs in the NFL.

Cook once wore No. 4 while playing for Florida State in college. With the NFL approving a new rule for certain position groups — like running backs — to be able to have single-digit numbers, Cook could theoretically go back to his college number. Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported that Cook will be sticking with No. 33, however.

Per Florio, Cook was considering a switch to No. 4, but decided against it. If Cook requested a number change, he would be required to purchase the existing inventory of unsold jerseys with his current number on them. The price tag fell in the range of $1.5 million, according to Florio.

Other Vikings players like Cameron Dantzler, Patrick Peterson and Hercules Mata’afa have all publicly talked about switching numbers on Twitter. Dantzler seems like he’s ultimately sticking with No. 27, but Mata’afa and Peterson have both alluded to switching numbers and have yet to walk it back.
