Report: Vikings OC Gary Kubiak ‘leaning towards retirement’

The Vikings have had four new offensive coordinators in the last four years.

Now that the 2020 season is over, the team might have to search for a new one yet again, according to a report.

Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Minnesota OC Gary Kubiak is “leaning towards retirement.” Kubiak just finished up his first year as offensive coordinator for the Vikings and he’s already retired once in his coaching career.

“People who know him believe it is headed that way again,” Pelissero said in regards to Kubiak retiring.

Kubiak started as an offensive advisor for the team in 2019, but he had a long history as an offensive mind around the league, most notably winning a Super Bowl as head coach of the Broncos.

After the 2019 season, then-Vikings offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski departed in the offseason for the Browns head coaching job, so the team promoted Kubiak.

If Kubiak leaves, the team will have to hire its sixth offensive coordinator during the Mike Zimmer era.
