Report: Vikings LB Anthony Barr high on Jets’ free agent wish list

The Jets could be after one of the best outside linebackers on the market this offseason.

According to The Athletic’s Connor Hughes, the Jets are very high on Vikings outside linebacker Anthony Barr. Hughes added that he wouldn’t be surprised if the Jets offered him the most money when free agency opens.

Barr has been a consistent player for the Vikings since being drafted by them in 2014 out of UCLA. He’s had at least 70 tackles in three of his five seasons in the league. However, he’s not a player who’s going to get to the quarterback a lot, as his career-high in sacks is just four.

The 26-year-old is also able to play in pass coverage. Barr only has one interception in his career, but he’s had a decent amount of pass defenses as well. His career-high in pass defenses is seven.

The Jets could use an upgrade at the outside linebacker position, as they rolled with Jordan Jenkins and Brandon Copeland last season. While Jenkins had a solid season, Copeland is set to be a free agent. He was good at getting to the quarterback with five sacks on the season, but he doesn’t generate nearly as many tackles as Barr does.

Barr would be a great pickup for Gang Green and he would only make a small dent in the Jets’ available cap space.
