Report: Vikings first-round pick Christian Darrisaw undergoes surgery

The Vikings made a risky bet with the offensive line this offseason.

Minnesota released veteran left tackle Riley Reiff. Reiff was coming off a good year, giving up just one sack and finishing with a PFF grade of 71.4.

The Vikings let go of Reiff and needed rookies to step up as soon as this year. Well, the most important rookie for that equation just got a minor setback.

Minnesota’s first-round pick, tackle Christian Darrisaw, underwent a minor core-muscle surgery on Thursday morning, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The visit was good news overall, though: the hope is that Darrisaw will be ready for Week 1.

For now, the Vikings will have to practice without him. Minnesota has been giving Rashod Hill a lot of first-team reps at the left tackle spot. Hill, a veteran who has started for the Vikings in the past, seems like the most likely candidate to take the starting left tackle spot if Darrisaw is unavailable.
