Report: Vikings are finalizing a restructured contract with T Riley Reiff

The Vikings made waves recently when the team traded for defensive end Yannick Ngakoue.

A player as good as Ngakoue provides a number of positives for Minnesota, but there was the negative of the team being right up against the 2020 salary cap.

On Monday, Chad Graff of The Athletic reported that the Vikings went to left tackle Riley Reiff about restructuring his deal.

On Tuesday, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport reported that Minnesota was finalizing a restructured deal for Reiff.

“One day after Reiff was offered a pay cut and said goodbye to teammates, he’s back and the O-line stays intact,” Pelissero said on Twitter.

If the Vikings wanted more cap space, Reiff was one of the prime candidates for the team to consider restructuring. Prior to this restructuring, Reiff had a cap hit of $13.2 million for 2020, via Over The Cap.

Reiff was the returning starter at left tackle. If he was to leave, the state of the offensive line would be uncertain, especially with the team releasing Josh Kline earlier this offseason.
