The Thunder own his draft rights, but they could move him since the 29-year-old will likely have a market.

With the draft on Thursday, the Thunder could potentially trade Micic as a draft trade piece. A possible contract could be agreed upon following the draft for Micic.

This isn’t the first time Micic has been linked with the Thunder. He has reportedly shown interest in making the jump to the NBA the last couple of offseasons. Instead, he has elected to stay overseas following successful contract negotiations with his EuroLeague club.

Even though he hasn’t signed with the Thunder yet, it’s important to note  general manager Sam Presti revealed in his preseason media availability in September they almost signed Micic and left the door open to him eventually joining OKC down the road.

“We have his rights. We traded for his rights during the Horford trade with Philadelphia. We wanted the rights to him because we think he’s a really good player. He’s really taken off since the time we acquired his rights,” Presti said. “All I can tell you is I thought we were pretty close at one time. Then, you know, he has a contract, and he’s committed over there. But I wouldn’t rule anything out. I wouldn’t rule anything out. It’s probably a year-to-year thing.”

The decorated guard has spent the last four seasons with the Anadolu Efes. In 34 games last season, Micic averaged 17.5 points on 46.1% shooting, 4.6 assists and 2.7 rebounds. He also shot 33.9% from 3.

The Thunder acquired Micic’s rights in the 2020 Al Horford trade with the Philadelphia 76ers, who drafted him in the second round (52nd) of the 2014 NBA draft.
