USWNT Star Tobin Heath Signs With Arsenal

U.S. women's national team star Tobin Heath has joined Arsenal on a free transfer, the club confirmed on Friday.

Heath, a two-time Women's World Cup winner and Olympic gold medalist, spent last season with Manchester United. She was available for a free transfer after leaving United earlier this summer.

According to the BBC, it is possible her Arsenal deal is for two seasons.

“Tobin’s record speaks for itself. She’s an incredibly talented player who will bring so much experience to our squad. This is an exciting time for the club, and I’m delighted we could secure Tobin’s signing as we prepare to kick off the new season at Emirates Stadium on Sunday,” Arsenal coach Jonas Eidevall said in a statement.

Heath scored four goals for United in 11 appearances with the club, though her time with the club was limited due to injury. Heath injured her ankle in training before United's WSL game with Chelsea on January 17 and later suffered a knee injury which limited her ahead of the Tokyo Olympics.

The 33-year-old forward arrived in England alongside USWNT teammate Christen Press. Press, like Heath, was on a one-year contract with United. She elected to sign with Angel City FC in the NWSL last week after her NWSL rights were traded by Racing Louisville. Both Press and Heath had their rights taken by Louisville in last year's expansion draft.
