Report: Trent Williams said he didn’t want to do a deal with the Vikings

The Redskins reportedly agreed to a deal with the 49ers, sending over Pro Bowl tackle Trent Williams for a fifth-round pick this year and a third-round pick next year, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported.

But what happened to the Vikings in the trade sweepstakes for Williams?

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, it came down to Minnesota and San Francisco. The Vikings felt like they were in a position to make a similar deal with Washington to the one that was worked out with San Francisco, per Rapoport.

Rapoport reported that Williams didn’t want to do a deal with the Vikings. Also according to Rapoport, if Minnesota had done the deal, Williams would have received an extension.

Williams would have been a big boost to the Vikings offensive line. However, the team drafted Boise State tackle Ezra Cleveland, who has a chance to come in and start right away. Cleveland will probably be a lot cheaper contract than Williams.
