Report: Trent Williams is back but he doesn’t intend to play

Washington Redskins left tackle Trent Williams didn’t end up getting traded before Tuesday’s deadline. Right after, he reported back to the team.

But reporting doesn’t mean Williams is getting back on the field.

According to JP Finlay of NBC Sports, Williams still “has no intention of playing this season.”

As it has seemed all along, Willaims’ eventual reporting to the team was to prevent his contract from tolling, meaning the Redskins would still own his rights for two more years as opposed to one.

Granted, the Redskins and Williams might be headed toward a fight over this point as well given the circumstances if he doesn’t make an effort to play.

Williams seemed like an obvious trade candidate before Tuesday and things seemed to heat up in the waning hours. But the Washington front office seemed to drag its feet too much and didn’t end up making a deal with a team like Cleveland.
