Report: Trent Williams has no problem extending holdout into regular season

While the Washington Redskins were getting ready for their first preseason game of 2019, more news about left tackle Trent Williams was starting to emerge.

Williams had yet to show up despite optimism from those in interviews such as Jay Gruden.

But JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington painted a clear picture: “He’s not coming back. Period.”

The report says Williams is fine missing regular-season games and the financial ramifications that would come with it, as well as explained the context:

Sources explained that the situation is not all about money, rather his contract status along with the series of allegations that the seven-time Pro Bowl tackle has lost faith in the team’s front office and medical staff. Still, money might be the only way to fix the holdout.

Where this ends is hard to say but the Redskins will attempt to push forward with Donald Penn at left tackle.

As for Williams, he’s one of the game’s best tackles and has been one of its best-paid linemen, so there seems to be some credibility to the idea he isn’t stressing the money side of things when it comes to a holdout.
