Report: Trent Williams didn’t want to be traded to Vikings, ending trade talks

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said something interesting late on Friday night about the Trent Williams trade situation with the Washington Redskins and Minnesota Vikings.

“At some point over the course of the day, Williams made it known that he would rather not go to the Minnesota Vikings,” Rapoport said. “Essentially, that ended the trade right there. The Vikings took it into their hands, and they took someone they believe is their tackle of the future.”

That ‘someone’ that Rapoport is talking about is Boise State’s Ezra Cleveland, whom the Vikings drafted in the second round on Friday night, officially putting an end to their potential desire to trade for Williams.

ESPN’s John Keim noted that the San Francisco 49ers are a team that remains interested in Williams, but they are waiting to see if veteran LT Joe Staley chooses to retire this offseason or not. Another team that could be a suitable landing spot is the Los Angeles Rams, according to Keim.

What happens with Trent going forward, nobody knows. It’s a messy situation, to say the least.
