Report: Top NFL draft prospect Montez Sweat has heart condition

Mississippi State edge defender Montez Sweat worked his way into top-10 consideration after turning heads at the Senior Bowl, followed by his outstanding testing at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

But his medical tests at the combine revealed an existing heart condition that could impact his draft stock, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport:

While players in the past have been sent home and not allowed to take part in drills because of health concerns, no restrictions were placed on Sweat prior to his showing.

Sweat’s agents said they cannot comment on the specific medical condition, but they insist it is not a concern, per Rapoport:

The 6-foot-6, 260-pounder posted an incredible 40 time of 4.41 seconds. Sweat is coming off of a strong senior season that saw him amass 12 sacks, 53 tackles and 14.5 tackles for loss.

He has drawn a lot of attention from teams, but they will surely seek more information about his health prior to the draft next month.
