Tommy Fury won’t be able to step on U.S. soil, at least for now.
Fury, the half-brother to boxing heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, was denied entry to the U.S. upon trying to fly out of Heathrow airport in London on Tuesday. The news was reported by TMZ, which cited law enforcement sources.
Tommy Fury looked to travel to the U.S. for a Wednesday press conference to promote his Aug. 6 boxing match with YouTube star Jake Paul at Madison Square Garden in New York.
According to TMZ, the travel ban was due to the Fury family’s ties with alleged Irish crime boss Daniel Kinahan, who’s wanted by the U.S. government over a series of alleged crimes, including cocaine drug dealing, among others.
Tyson Fury also reportedly was denied U.S. entry earlier this month by officials.
It’s uncertain if these travel bans to the U.S. on the Tyson family will affect Tommy’s fight against Paul.
Kinahan was a founder of MTK Global, a management company that promoted and managed both boxing and MMA fighters. The company closed in April following sanctions on Kinahan by the U.S. government.
